Bonekemper receives award

Tom Bonekemper, President of the ACBL, received the American Baseball Coaches Association's Meritorious Service Award at the recent convention in Nashville.
Bonekemper has been involved with the ACBL since 1981 and was a principal in the transfer of the Allentown Wings franchise to Quakertown in 1983. In 1991 he assumed the Vice-President position in the ACBL and became President in 1998. The ACBL has produced at least one new Major League player every year going back to 1980. The 2011 season will be the 45th of ACBL baseball. Jim Tracy, manager of the Colorado Rockies, received the Honor Award at the Honors Luncheon while John Cole (Blazers,84),head coach at the University of Pennsylvania, was recognized for a 25-Year Coach Award.
Peter Caliendo (Caliendo Sports International,Inc.), Jim Paronto (NCAA Baseball Rules Editor) and Giorgio Moretti (President, Italian National Committee of Coaches) also accepted Service Awards.

Varvaro makes MLB debut

Anthony Varvaro, former Metro NY Cadets RHP, made his MLB debut on September 24 when he hurled a shutout inning with two strikeouts against Tampa Bay.
The former St.John's pitcher made four appearances since his promotion from Tacoma and took the loss against Oakland on Sunday when he allowed five runs in four innings.

North Fork holds on to edge Quakertown 5-4

For the second year in their 2 year existence a Hampton's team has captured the ACBL championship.
North Fork wrapped up a 31-15 campaign with a 5-4 nail biter at Cochran Park over the Quakertown Blazers 5-4.

Ryan Buch allowed only a lead-off bunt single; otherwise he pitched perfect baseball for seven innings in a 2-0 win for Kannapolis over Ashville.
Buch, the former Quakertown Blazer RHP and Top Prospect in the ACBL in 2007, faced the minimum 21 batters since the leadoff hitter was caught stealing.
